Originating from the misty Piemonte, Nebbiolo is one of the most challenging grape varieties to cultivate worldwide, yet it produces some of the world’s finest red wines, like Barolo. The difficulty in growing it increases when taken out of its native region. Yiannis Papargyriou, who isn’t afraid of challenges, attempted and succeeded in cultivating Nebbiolo in Lalioti, Corinthia.
Organoleptic Characteristics:
The wine has a ruby color with garnet highlights in the glass.
The nose is rich, filled with aromas of spices, dried fruits, and herbs. Black pepper, cinnamon, anise, and ginger blend with dried plum and sour cherry to create an intense and lasting bouquet. Lavender, eucalyptus, smoke, and leather follow, with dried violet leaving a pleasantly surprising sweet sensation. On the palate, the wine has a medium body with balanced and well-integrated tannins and a lively, nervy acidity. That’s where the magic begins: cherry, sour cherry, smoke, and chocolate lead the way. Look for black tea, lavender, and fresh leaves. The long finish leaves a taste of cinnamon and ginger on the palate.
Pairings:
Pairs perfectly with stewed red meats, grilled sausages, yellow cheeses, and cold cuts. Serve at 18 °C.
