The village of Pommard is located between Volnay to the south and Beaune to the north. Pommard is situated on a slope, between 240 and 380 meters, with an eastern or southeastern exposure, and only produces red wines. There are no grand cru wines.
The clay-rich limestone soil imparts some unique characteristics to Pommard: deep red-black color, an intense and spicy bouquet of blackcurrant, musk, and game.
It pairs exceptionally well with roasted salmon, roast chicken, grilled red meat (beef, lamb chops, osso bucco, stews, ragouts, bœuf bourguignon), duck, partridge, quail, venison, young wild boar, teppanyaki beef, and mashed potatoes with salted butter.
