The Lagavulin 12 Year Old delivers exactly what one expects from its annual release: a sweet peat smoke reminiscent of a recently extinguished fire, evoking images of November 5th bonfires. The maritime breeze and aromas of shellfish and seaweed enrich the experience, while a spicy fruity scent hints at Bramley apples, ready for a homemade apple pie.
With the addition of water, fresh aromas of damp grass and autumn leaves after the rain emerge. On the palate, citrus and smoke notes are prominent, with a touch of cigar, while ash makes its presence felt from the first sip. The smooth texture and warm finish add depth, maintaining its character even with the addition of water.
The taste concludes with sweet smoke, enhanced by lemon notes and a hint of salt, making it a perfectly balanced whisky with a strong smoky profile.
