Hennessy XO is a blend of around 100 different eaux-de-vie (brandy) from the finest regions of Cognac, aged for an extended period, justifying its classification as X.O. (Extra Old). In 1865, Maurice Hennessy, grandson of the founder Richard Hennessy, was the first to establish a classification system for cognac. Inspired by a decorative star on his desk, he used a different number of stars to distinguish quality. This is how the first Hennessy cognac with 3 stars was born, known today as V.S (Very Special).
This classification system was soon adopted by all producers. Hennessy XO was originally created by Maurice Hennessy himself, as he believed that rare and exceptional cognac would define the future of the category.
