Don Papa Rum celebrates the passion and enthusiasm of revolutionary hero Papa Isio from the island of Negros in the Philippines, who fought for the island’s independence from the Spanish in the 1890s. The rum is made from molasses, known as “black gold,” and is aged for several years in former American Bourbon barrels at the foot of Mount Kanlaon, before being blended to achieve its rich flavor.
The final blend captures the spirit of Don Papa with aromas of citrus and vanilla on the nose, while the palate is full of candied tropical fruits and honey. The long, bold finish is characterized by dried raisins and toasted oak. Don Papa Rum is perfect for enjoying neat, over ice, or in cocktails.
The story of Don Papa Rum begins at the foot of Mount Kanlaon, where sugarcane is milled to create a sweet, rich molasses. Historically, the Philippines has been one of the top ten sugarcane producers in the world, with Negros Island, also known as Sugarlandia, producing more than half of the country’s total sugar output. The name “Don Papa” is a tribute to Papa Isio, the charismatic leader who played a pivotal role in liberating the island from Spanish rule.
