Catena Malbec is a blend not just of grapes but of vineyards! It originates from the Lunlunta, El Cepillo, and Gualtallary vineyards, located at altitudes reaching up to 1500 meters. The soil composition and the excellent cultivation place these vineyards in the Grand Cru category. The cool temperatures in the region allow the Malbec grapes to ripen perfectly, while the segmented harvest and 5-day cold maceration give the wine intoxicating aromas. The 12-day fermentation with wild yeasts and the 19-20 day extraction process enhance its structure. The wine is aged for 12 months in specially selected barrels (1st, 2nd, and 3rd use), adding complexity and a juicy, fruity character.
Organoleptic Characteristics:
Catena Malbec Zapata boasts a deep ruby color with purple highlights. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of dark fruits like plum, blueberries, blackcurrant, sour cherry, and black cherry. Over time, aromas of smoke, chocolate, and vanilla emerge, with delicate hints of peppery lavender. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with numerous but silky tannins and medium to low acidity. The ripe dark fruits, mainly plums and blackberries, are complemented by notes of smoke and vanilla. The finish offers subtle aromas of lavender and dark chocolate.
Pairings:
Pair it with a medium rare rib eye, a beef fillet with red fruit sauce, a burger with caramelized onions and bacon, or spare ribs with BBQ sauce. Serve at 16°C.
