The Botanist, an exciting and unusual gin from the Islay Bruichladdich distillery, contains no fewer than 31 botanicals, 22 of which are sourced from the southern Hebridean island itself. These include mugwort, meadowsweet, and the enigmatic Lady’s Bedstraw flowers. The resulting dry gin is described as “floral.” It has a complex and floral nose, with elderflower and mint standing out from the other botanicals after a few moments of enjoyment. The Botanist is a rich and smoothly silky gin, enjoyable even on its own. The finish is long and intricate, with the botanicals slowly fading one by one, leaving a delightful minty freshness at the end.
