Baileys was the first liqueur to successfully combine cream and alcohol, using a process that prevents the separation of whiskey and cream. The exact quantity of other ingredients is not known, but it includes chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and sugar. According to the manufacturer, no preservatives are needed, as the whiskey is used to preserve the cream. The cream used in the drink comes from Avonmore Waterford Plc, a cooperative dairy located about 70 miles outside Dublin. More than 4 million liters of Irish cream are used annually in the production of Baileys. It is served with ice, blended with crushed ice, with coffee, or in various cocktails.
